Thank you for responding once again,  I tried you suggestion:

var buttonGrp = sap.ui.getCore().byId("sapMRbDefaultGroup");

and

var buttonGrp = sap.ui.getCore().byId("appView--homePageView--ApacheButton1-label.sapMRbDefaultGroup");

Still undefined???   The container seems to be in the way again
