Yes it is standard behaviour,
If it is the case of IW39 it takes you to IW33 in case of single line item.
I never had the necessity of reseraching into this to have a single line item ALV scree.
You might be aware that this is not the case with developements.
Developed Z reports display single line items unless you program to display screens (IW23, IW33 etc),
in case of single records.
